Giving notice in the Netherlands means the formal notice of a (legal) action in a written document, such as a writ of summons or letter. Giving notice in this manner is prescribed in Dutch law for various situations. For example to terminate a contract one must give notice.
Furthermore a duty of notification for the employer is included in the new Dutch Employment Act. The employer is required to give notice to an employee with a temporary employment contract at least on month before the end of the employment. The notice must state if and under which conditions the employment contract will be extended.
